Dear
Babe:
If a woman has had a few drinks more than I've had, and she's all
over me, looking to get jiggy with it, am I a jerk if I fulfill her
immediate wish, or should I try to temporarily avoid her advances
and chance the risk she will tell all her girlfriends I am obviously
gay?
-- Do The Right Thing
Dear DTRT:
What kind of bars do you hang out in? And what kind of woman would
tell her friends that you are gay because you behaved like a gentleman
and didn't take advantage of her? If such a woman actually exists,
she's the kind of woman you'll probably want to avoid at all costs.
Ditto for any of her friends who would believe such a story. A woman
who would spread this kind of rumor because she didn't get what she
wanted when she wanted it, is the same kind of woman, who, if you
satisfied her inebriated desires, would probably later accuse you
of date rape because you took advantage of her while she was drunk.
And wouldn't you rather have a stupid woman and her ignorant friends
suspect you of being gay rather than being arrested for rape? I rest
my case.
Reading between the lines, I get the impression you're looking for
a logical reason to take advantage of a woman's lowered inhibitions,
even though you know it's the wrong thing to do. ("Well, if I don't
give her what she wants, she's going to ruin my reputation. Nailing
her is a preemptive defense.") Frankly, that's a load of hogwash and
you know it. I say, behave like a gentleman at all times, treat women
with respect, and your reputation will always be sterling.
