Dear Babe:

While I like my music collection,  I have to admit,  most of the CD's I own are not conducive to love-making.  I'd like to have some music that's seductive and mellow.  I guess jazz or classical would be the way to go,  but I'm totally clueless about this kind of music. What would you suggest?

Dear Tone Deaf:

The perfect music is an absolute necessity when it comes to creating a romantic atmosphere.  Few babes get hot listening to "Ferlin Husky's Greatest Hits" or  "Leonard Nimoy Does Dion."  Still,  there's a wide range of notions about just what perfect love-making music is.   The only way to find out what works for you is to take some suggestions and listen for yourself.

Generally, it's best to avoid music with words (or at least words you and your partner can understand) as they can be distracting in the heat of passion.  Also, stay away from music with a driving beat unless that pounding rhythm is perfectly timed. It can be disastrous.

While I'm sure many people swear by jazz or classical,  they're not my first choice. (I've got eclectic tastes.)   Personally,  I'd vote for any one of the three albums by a group called Ghazal (on the Shanachie label.)    Three performers -- an Indian sitarist,  a Persian kamancheh player and an Indian tabla player create sensuous, impressionistic improvisations which are uniquely suited to romance.  ("Ghazal" is a Persian love poem.)   Check out, also,  Omar Faruk Tekbilek,  a Turkish musician.   Just about any of his albums are suitable for romance,  though in my opinion, "Whirling" (Celestial Harmonies) is the best.  Any of these CDs should be readily available in major record stores.   I have yet to play any of these for anyone who didn't love them.

I haven't listened to jazz in many, many years so I'm not very hip on what's current. When I did listen, however,  it was to George Winston,  Passport, Keith Jarrett.  Any of their music would be great in the bedroom.  And though I enjoy classical music,  I've never found it particularly arousing, sexually.

How about we put it up for a vote?  Let's hear from other readers.   What are your top three favorite albums to create a romantic atmosphere and/or listen to when making love?
